Abstract

EUROPEAN UNION’S DISABILITY POLICY
A major problem standing in front of the European Union members and countries progressing towards membership is their disability policies. The World Disability Report prepared by the World Health Organization based on 2010 world population estimates reveals that over one billion people or about 15 percent of the world's population are estimated to live with some form of disability. This ratio is about the same in the European Union and 80 million people continue their lives as disabled people. In the European Union, the number of disabled people between the ages of 15 to 64 who have basic activity problems is 44 million while the number of disabled people who have limited working ability due to a life-long health problem is around 35 million. This number is too many to be ignored. In this study; it is aimed to produce solutions to the possible problems that will be encountered in the near future with a different perspective by examining the European Union policies towards disabled people.
