Abstract
Eğitim kurumunun temel çıkış noktası bireyin, kendini bilmesini ve tanımasını sağlamaktır. Mizaç ve yetenek temelli bir tanıma yaklaşımı, kritik bir öneme sahiptir. Bireyin kendini tanıması ve bu tanımanın takibi, onun eğitim yolculuğunda kişiselleştirilmiş bir yol haritasına sahip olmak demektir. Bir ülkenin bireysel ve toplumsal anlamda kalkınmasında başat rol oynayan bireylerin eğitimi nitelikli öğretmenlerle sağlanmaktadır. Öğretmen öğrencinin eğitiminde merkezi bir figürdür. Eğitim yatırımı toplumun geleceği için önemlidir. Bu nedenle gereken bilgi ve becerileri kazanmış öğretmenlerin varlığı ile ülke kalkınacaktır. Geçmişten günümüze kadar önem arz eden öğretmenlik mesleğinin niteliği, yeterlilikleri, statüsü hep tartışma ve araştırma konusu olmuştur. Çalışmada yöntem olarak nitel araştırma, desen olarak doküman tercih edilmiştir. Araştırmada öğretmen tanımı, öğretmenlerde bulunması gereken özellikler, geçmişten günümüze öğretmenlik mesleği hakkında bulgular elde edilerek açıklanmıştır. Kendini geliştiren, okuyan, sorgulayan, teknolojik gelişmeleri yakından takip eden, kendini sürekli bilgi olarak yenileyen en önemlisi ise işini seven aşkla yapan öğretmenlerin ülke kalkınmasına iyi bireyler yetişmesine en büyük vesile olduğu görülmüştür.

Abstract
The main starting point of the educational institution is to enable the individual to know and recognize himself/herself. A temperament and ability-based recognition approach is of critical importance. Self-recognition of the individual and the follow-up of this recognition means having a personalized road map in his/her educational journey. The education of individuals who play a major role in the individual and social development of a country is provided by qualified teachers. The teacher is a central figure in the education of the student. Investment in education is important for the future of society. For this reason, the country will develop with the presence of teachers who have gained the necessary knowledge and skills. The quality, qualifications and status of the teaching profession, which has been important from past to present, have always been the subject of discussion and research. In the study, qualitative research was preferred as the method and document as the design. In the research, the definition of a teacher, the characteristics that should be found in teachers, findings about the teaching profession from the past to the present were obtained and explained. It has been seen that teachers who improve themselves, read, question, closely follow technological developments, constantly renew themselves in terms of knowledge, and most importantly, teachers who love their job and do it with love are the greatest means of raising good individuals for the development of the country.
